January was a spunky and conversational month with Spring runway shows from Haute Couture fashion labels. I wanted to share a mood board/fashion collage of my personal favorites and what I feel stands out for the Spring season 2019. I was inspired by Iris Van Herpen, Viktor & Rolf, and Zuhair Murad.
What stood out in all three was the colors and volume of the pieces. Haute Couture in Paris was seen everywhere. People who do not follow fashion were posting about Viktor & Rolf collections and were posting on the art Iris Van Herpen created.
Zuhair Murad had details of embellishment on a palette inspired by ocean depth. The background of this collage was a close up of the silky pleats from a gown of Murad’s. My favorite of all three were Iris Van Herpen’s collection. It was refreshing to see more color from the designer. Her innovative creativity always makes me take a second look..”is that really a dress?!” Her 3-D face contouring jewelry added to her structure of the designs. She had fluidity and strong structure in her SS19 runway show. There was a lot of talk circling Viktor & Rolf’s runway of bold statements on tulle gowns. The writing was clearly not a screen printed style, it was layered tulle created a 3-D effect making the statement pop out.
Haute Couture always arises questions.. “how can someone wear that,” “who would wear that,” “that is not realistic.” Which is exactly why Haute Couture is important to see and admire. I cannot wait to see what celebrity or influential person will wear from one of these collections. I can picture any of these dresses on a red carpet making a well-deserved statement.
Away from the red carpet, these runway looks will reflect on spring trends of layered dresses and shades of yellows, oranges, and neutrals. Other designers like Dior, Ferragamo, and Louis Vuitton have inspirations around sea life colors and detail like Zuhair Murad. Iris Van Herpen, Viktor & Rolf, and Zuhair Murad haute couture collections showcase serious texture which can be expected to see more of throughout the Spring season.
